Hailing from the southside of London Micquel Pereira has an undeniable love for the craft of acting and storytelling. He loves provoking the thoughts of people and, if he can, leaving people with a different perspective, no matter the topic of conversation. This British born has a mixed Caribbean and Indian heritage and hopes to highlight those cultures in his work; imagine a production of Romeo & Juliet but the Montagues are Jamaican and the Capulets are Indian - wouldn’t that bring an interesting dynamic to the beloved tragedy? He started his acting journey when he got accepted into The Brit School, “the leading Performing and Creative Arts school in the UK”. There he was introduced to theatre practitioners like Stanislavski, Artaud and Brecht and various arts of performance like, Physical Theatre, Site-specific theatre, Experimental theatre and more. During his time, Micquel performed in Lucy Prebble’s Enron, Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost, and Sarah Kane’s Cleansed (which was expressed through Physical Theatre). After graduating, he went on to complete the foundation course at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts where he had the privilege of honing those techniques he learned at The Brit School and adding new ones to his tool box. At Mountview he had the privilege of doing a production of Lysistrata by Aristophanes.

Micquel admittedly could have been more patient in his earlier years but wanted to start his career NOW (then in 2018) and joined Identity School of Acting (IDSA) where he saw the opportunity to carry on training, get specific in his process and precise in his approach, while trying his luck at the industry. His time at IDSA was valuable learning so much more about his instrument and understanding how much further his capabilities could go. COVID happens and puts a stop to everything…we find ourselves in the last four months of 2021 and Micquel starts questioning whether he should still pursue this craft, this career. So, he decides to audition for something. A drama school. Not because he hopes to get accepted but because he’s not sure if he even loves the craft anymore. Lo and behold, he’s accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, and even with all the previous training Micquel had, he saw it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live and train in New York City and get the full time training he believed he may have been missing. The goal while attending drama school in New York? To be bold; to truly take risks; to not shy away from what he brings to the characters he embodies and be confident in going full throttle. He had the privilege of working on an Off-Broadway show, the newly written play Big Wave written and directed by Brazilian born, New York based artist named Daniely Martins. Some of his other credits during his stay include, OTHELLO from Shakespeare’s Othello, ORPHEUS in Polaroid Stories by Naomi Iizuka, and HAL CARTER from PICNIC by William Inge.

If Micquel isn’t performing he’s at a secondary school assisting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) reach their academic targets and helping them get more confident in their independence. He enjoys videogaming, a wide range of sports, keeping fit, and reading the Bible and understanding its history. Stay tuned for some artist updates as Micquel works to establish himself as a respected performer, and to plant some seeds provoking conversations he believes we should be having through his own written material.
